1. Are your obstacle courses safe for both kids and adults?
Yes — Castle Kid only invests in top-tier commercial inflatables from the best manufacturers in the industry. Every unit uses fire-retardant vinyl that meets NFPA-701 standards, and all TSSA-regulated devices undergo annual inspections, engineering approval, and dossier compliance. Kids and adults may use the inflatables as long as all riders are similar size, weight, and activity level, which is a key rule in every engineering dossier.
2. What surfaces can obstacle courses be set up on?
Grass is always preferred for safety, but we can also set up on asphalt, turf, concrete, or gym flooring. We avoid dirt or gravel unless notified in advance so we can ensure a safe anchoring plan. Our team will confirm all safety requirements before setup.
3. How many kids can go through an obstacle course per hour?
Throughput depends on the size of the inflatable and the age of participants. A 30 ft dual-lane obstacle handles approximately 180–360 riders per hour based on 2–4 riders at a time with 40–60 second cycles. Larger 60–90 ft obstacles can safely handle 4–6 riders at a time, increasing total capacity. These are honest, engineering-based numbers — not inflated marketing claims.
4. Do all inflatables require TSSA licensing in Ontario?
No. Only inflatables where feet leave the ground (jumping, climbing, sliding) are regulated by TSSA.
Inflatable games such as axe throw, skee ball, basketball shoot do not require TSSA licensing.
For regulated devices, Castle Kid carries:
• a valid Operating Licence
• individual device permits
• annual TSSA inspections
• and is operated by Steve McPhee — a licensed ADM-I Amusement Device Mechanic
5. What is an inflatable “dossier,” and why does it matter?
Every TSSA-regulated inflatable has a dossier — a technical document signed by a licensed engineer that outlines:
• required anchoring
• maximum rider weight
• rider separation rules
• set-up angles
• structural tolerances
• and the required NFPA-701 fire-retardant testing
During the mandatory in-field inspection, a piece of vinyl from the inflatable must pass a fire test:
a 12-second burn must self-extinguish within 3 seconds.
If it fails, the inflatable cannot be approved for use in Ontario.
Castle Kid uses only inflatables that pass this test.
6. How do you clean and sanitize the inflatables?
Every inflatable is cleaned and sanitized on-site at every single setup — whether it’s a backyard or a large event. We use hospital-grade cleaners, including vinegar-based disinfectants used in Oshawa hospitals and OdoBan (kills 99.9% of germs). Nothing gets delivered without being fully cleaned before customer handover. For TSSA events, ongoing monitoring is done when our staff is hired to operate the device.
7. Can adults go through the obstacle courses with their kids?
Absolutely — our inflatables are designed for kids, teens, and adults up to the posted weight limit. The key safety rule is that all riders must be of similar size and weight to prevent collisions, which is outlined in every engineering dossier. Adults can fully participate as long as this rule is followed.
